New Bird In The Garden

I have had a new bird visit my feeders lately, it is blue grey on the back and has a peachy underside and short tail, about sparrow sized, what is it please?

My first thought was chaffinch too. More common at my feeders than house sparrows, and can be seen in all parts of the UK. But that would leave me wondering where you are (roughly) in the UK not to have seen one before this.

Sounds like a nuthatch to me too.

Nuthatch. It would be tempted by a birdfeeder, and though it would not normally be in a garden, unless that was in a wood or very close to one, the inducement may be too great. That would explain why you haven't noticed one before. You'd be doing well not to notice a chaffinch; that is common in gardens over most of the UK

Yes, its a nuthatch, thanks clod, just looked it up I have never seen one before, what a pretty bird it is, we have lots of chaffinches, blue, great and long tail tits, wagtails, gold finches (which are called King Harrys about here) a robin or two and a gang of sparrows(about 30) oh says I spend more on bird food than on people food, but I do love watching them

I haven't had a sparrow or starling in my garden for over a year. I get most of the finches including bramblings & siskins, GS woodpeckers & the occasional redpoll.

Yeah, defiantly sounds like a nuthatch.
If you have a peanut feeder, you may notice it will hang upside-down when feeding.
