The other night I saw what looked like a large black wasp constantly flying up and down around the light bulb which immediately told me it wasn't a wasp. It was struggling to fly because of the sheer mass of it's bodyweight.
I eventually sprayed it with windowlex and it fell to the floor where it transpired it was a large beetle which I thought was a cockroach so I stamped on but it didn't die possibly due to it's hard shell or possibly due to my large boots having gaps between the rugged grips so stamped on it again and it died. On closer inspection it looked like a giant super ant.
What was this creature? I've never seen this before and assume it's came over on fruit or veg from abroad. I've also seen a smaller version since.
Pastafreak I hate myself for having this irrational fear but my body goes into flight or fight mode and 9 times outta 10 I'm in a corner with some creature coming at me angrily. I do say a few words for it then bury it in a plant pots earth
LOL Doosh I'm wondering now if you really saw this thing at all and in fact just wanted to enjoy a huge backlash from ABers about the way you killed it :-)
I found a devils coach horse beetle just a couple of weeks ago in our kitchen, amazing creature, I took it carefully outside and released it. It was quite a monster!
Could it be a June bug? It is late in the year for these but not impossible. They look like flying cockroaches, are very clumsy because of body weight and do like flying around lights. Check for pictures under genus Phyllophaga and see if that is what you are seeing.
