Lawn With Bald Patches

We had our garden turfed last summer. The grass has 95% survived in spite of our kitten using it as a lavatory.
Spring is threatening to turn up and there is quite a large bald patch near the centre. Do I just dig this bit out, put in different topsoil and reseed it or do the lot?

I have short arms and deep pockets, so I would go for repairing the patch.
Keep the reseeded area covered with chicken wire until well established.

Still a bit too early to patch repair..here anyway...but...rake over affected area with hand claw...mix seed with compost.. water first ..lay seed mix..water again...protect from birds by way of chicken wire..close mesh...keep watered...and leave until thick enough to light trim....try and match the seed ..ie..rye mix or fine ornamental.....

Tried the raking over and reseeding but it didn't take. We had turf underneath it which was dug over but that suffered from a couple of bald bits too.
Any chance that the original topsoil was a bit manky so affected the new stuff? The soil was pretty mixed up mind

The problems all seem to point to the manky topsoil, which may be contaminated in some way.
I think, what I'd do is wait til spring, dig out the sour soil, and then some, then patch in some new turf to match the original, remembering to keeping it from drying out.
