I bought a bag of budgie seed from the pet shop and put it on a feeding tray for the wild birds. Now, three weeks later, they have started to sprout. I have looked online to see what seed they may be but had no luck. Does anyone have any idea what seed they could be and if it would be worthwhile replanting the seedlings just to see what they grow into?

most of it used to be grasses. As a child i used to grow our budgie seed for the cat.
Grasses, millet, possibly some flax, nyger. nothing worth growing on
Does it not grow into budgies? After all, grass seed grows into grass and flower seeds grow into flowers.

Thanks woofgang and rowanwitch for your help
If you read the contents on the bag it will tell you what seeds are in it to give you a good idea of what will grow. We always by the non sprouting or no mess food to avoid the problem.

No contents list - pet shop owner bagged it up himself
That makes it a bit difficult :-).
If you buy regularly, ask him next time what is in it and about getting the no mess/sprouting seed.
If you plant them and they grow into a tall somewhat decorative plant, you may have a visit from the Police.

Hans.
Hans beat me to it. A friend had a plant sprouted from bird seed growing in her garden. She knew what it was - just left it as a plant growning among other plants/flowers.
Hasten to add - this was many years ago.
We used to get loads of grassy weeds under our bird feeder. We now have a sack of denatured seeds which shouldn't germinate.

Previously I used to buy the cheapest fatty seed balls. Quite apart from the weed problem, we ended up with a hillock of rancid fat on the ground.

Strangely enough - about a decade ago I had a visit from the police following a neighbour reporting me for growing illegal plants in my front window. It was actually mimosa so we all had a laugh about it.
Some folk can be a bit sensitive regarding mimosa. ;-)

Was it a seed mix, or were all the seeds uniform looking ? If so it's likely to be a type of grass seed, which in my experience has a coarse broad leaf and not really that attractive.
