I reckon he just randomly kept trying until he hit upon a solution. It looked as if he was trying to get the stick over the top, but his mouth wasn't high enough.

Dogs and cats will keep doing something until it works.  It is an annoying habit - especially when they are trying to wake up its human at 3 am.

Don't see how it could have been 'set up', piggy. Dogs are very clever but i don't think you could teach one to pretend to be having trouble getting the stick across the bridge and then suddenly solve the problem. 😉
