Cat allergy - can I get a Rex?

My partner is severely allergic to animal hair, it makes his asthma unbearable and his eyes itchy. I hear that Rex cats don't have the guard hairs that can be responsible - but what is the likelihood of him being OK? (it's hard to find a Rex owner in Sussex who will lend me their cat for a few hours!)

I had a Cornish Rex and the one thing for people that are allergic, they could be in the home, but if they touched the cat then they needed to wash their hands don't touch your eyes or face after petting them, there is NO known HYPOallergenic cat, just varying degrees, all animals with skin, saliva/dander have allergens to give off.

Cornish Rex don't have guards hairs but still have skin and saliva/dander.

Im really allergic to cats too but I went to the humane society, fell in love with a little kitten and home with me he went. My allergies drove me nuts for a long time but i seem to have gotten over it. It doesnt bother me at all anymore. I must say this kitty was worth all the misery. How could you say no to this ?
