Can I give my dog pork to eat - somewhere in the back of my mind is telling me no, but is this a myth?

i had the same problem but i fed my jack russell pork once and shes still standing!
Pork is fine...as far as I am aware...never had any problems and I use it for trainging treats regularly. I also give them pork bones which they go nuts for.

Pork shouldn't do any harm. Are you feeding it as a treat or as a meal. Too much as in a meal may cause gastrointestinal upset which is not good. Are you feeding cooked or raw? Don't forget that dogs need carbohydrates as well.

Many thanks all - I'm just going to give some as a treat - just to stop him drooling everying time we have pork for dinner!

I think it all stems back to the fact that people taste like pork so they never made any dog food with pork in it, because they thought dogs would bite people!

In fact, until a few years ago, there wasn't anything for a dog with pork in it, they've only sold pigs ears and trotters in the past 10 years or so.

Urgh really? People taste like pork? And who discovered that then???
Our dog has pork whenever we do, and there's no problem. As with giving it to humans, you just need to make sure it's properly cooked, and not to give too much, because it can be quite fatty.
FYI: Info I have found, and so don't give my dog any people food...Too much fat or fried foods can cause pancreatitis.
Ham and bacon contain too much fat and too much salt, and can cause pancreatitis. Also, large breeds of dogs that eat salty food may drink too much water and develop a life-threatening condition called bloat. This is where the stomach fills up with gas and within several hours may twist, causing death.
I think in moderation if you just have to give them pork, small amounts and watch for reaction, also pancreatitis will come on if it builds with too much fat over time. My moms doxie got an attack, she did not know my Grandmother was giving her the bowl she eats Ice cream from to lick clean every night so after a few months she got a pancreas attack..got real sick, I had to have a talk with my grandmother

Yes....and according to the Dani tribe in Irian, babies taste like Fish.

No wonder the cats always hanging around the cot !

They say you should not give your dog pork due to it causing worms
