I know it's hard, but the best thing to do is leave it alone ...
The mother probably was feeding it until it was moved....sorry
I believe you've done the right thing tali, at least it's off the ground. If its old enough to cheep that would attract every predator around to pick it off so as long as it's not hidden from mum or dad the odds of it surviving are pretty reasonable.

Every year we hear people say 'leave them alone' when a baby bird falls out the nest or looks as though its in distress and mostly it is good advice they should be left alone - but there are always exceptions.

Well you couldn't have done any worse, however, i suspect it will be rejected by it's mother.
Take it to your local wildlife officer.

bad news , unfortunately it died
Aah, poor baby.

If it helps tali,I found a very weak baby Dunnock near our shed last night. It was pelting with rain and as the baby couldn't move I picked him up and popped him inside with the door open, but this morning I found his poor little body. Heartbreaking, but at least we tried.
we had a sparrow and the vet told us to feed it on dog food chappie it did well on this and grew to adulthood when we released it .
