What do I do with this goldfish?
32 Answers
Putting this here as B&S is most popular..it's also in the 'proper' section so please don't tell me off....
Well I am seething. My 9 year old daughter went out for
the day to a fair with her friend and her family ~ and came back with a goldfish.
I don't have a bowl or tank, so have to go to a pet shop tomorrow & find a suitable home to purchase! in the meantime he is in a clear plastic bowl. I am hoping he lasts the night, as I don't have anything to oxygenate the water. I am furious because I hate fairgrounds trading fish..it is so irresponsible. Any tips gratefully received :o)

Doesn't solve your problem though. I don't think your 9yr old daughter would appreciate it being flushed away, and i'm sure the goldfish wouldn't

Thanks for that, Rock 'n' Roll ~ I had to laugh at this part:
'The Telegraph says that Hewitt bowed to pressures from fellow ministers who feared that introducing the ban on goldfish as prizes would expose the Government to accusations of running a nanny state. '
Isn't that shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted? ;o)

Hiya pippa
providing the goldy survives the night through stress and shock he'll be OK in a bowl until you can a bowl.........however......
Goldfish, can live for 30 years (yep..30 years!) and really need a minimum of 10gal per fish, sticking him in a bowl- even though meant well- is just a cruel as a clear plastic bag.
And as you obviously no doubt now know, it's not a good idea to flush it down the loo should he die.

Yeah I know bowls are bad ~ I used to own Shubunkins and they lived in a big tank..I only gave them away as I was moving house. They went to the lady next door who had a pond, which is of course the best place for them really! I didn't know they could live that long though ;o)
I shall be looking for a tank for it tomorrow...
