Cats ear infection

My cats ae losing the fur on their ears. The vet can't find anything wrong, and all the tests have been negative, but still they have these patches. They don't seem bothered by them. ny ideas on what this might be, or similar experiences?

One of mine has too and tests have revealed nothing. It seems to come and go and sometimes its on the bridge of her nose as well. My theory is that its over enthusiastic cleaning or over enthusiastic rubbing on furniture which mine does a lot.
