Kennel Club registration for my puppy
6 Answers
I bought a beautiful Cocker Spaniel last year (she's 15 months old now). She came with a pedigree but the breeded didn't register her with the Kennel Club. Does anyone know if I can do this myself? If so where do I start?

Here in the U.S. all the forms and information are available from the American Kennel Club. I expect that a quick Google will provide you with the URL for the U.K. version.
Frankly, unless you intened to breed your female commercially, the costs involved aren't really worth the effort in my opinion. Here it can cost around $100 to register the dog. Unless you value the registration document framed on the wall, as a lot proud owners do (nothing wrong with that!) the registeration doesn't provide much in the way of benefits, except, as stated, for breeding purposes... Good luck!

AnnLinda is correct, both parents must be KC registered., and the breeder is the only person who can register the puppy. The dam of the litter has to be registered in the breeder's name. You could start by contacting the Kennel Club 0870 6066750 with the name of the dam and her date of birth if known, and asking if she is registered, and also ask about the sire. They will tell you, and also whether any of the littter was registered.
It costs 12 per puppy to register the litter up to 12 months, but after that it costs 60 per puppy. If you contact the breeder and offer to pay, she may agree. If the dam is not registered you might still be able to get the breeder to do the same with her breeder, although it will be getting quite expensive by then.

Just a thought, if you got the puppy cheaper by not being registered, you might end up having to pay the full price for her.
Also, some (unscrupulous) breeders have been known to withhold the papers, particularly for a bitch, so they can use them to register other puppies if they cannot register them in the normal way. For instance, licensed breeders cannot register more than one litter in a year from the same bitch, and no one can register puppies bred after the bitch has reached 8 years, or register puppies if the bitch was under one year when mated.
