Distance of the sun from the earth

is it true that it takes light from the sun 7 mins to reach the earth? Maybe i'm being stupid but i thought the sun was light years away??

That's about right something like 93 millon miles which is about 8 light minutes.

A light year is nearly 6 trillion miles (6,000,000,000,000) and even the nearest star is over 4 light years away

The Sun is far closer than you think! I actually got burnt badly by it last year on holiday in Cyprus. I knew I should not have stayed out in it for longer than 7 minutes. Hope this helps.
