Lump on dog
27 Answers
My dog is due for her annual vaccinations and will be taken for them this week . I have noticed a lump on her thigh area , it's about an inch diameter and movable , she flinches when I gently touch it . I will of-course ask the vet to look at it but wondered if any of you know what it could be ? xx

It was a cyst and had to be removed, however they did tests and it was benign. I would try not to worry about it until you know for sure what it is but like you said you should show it to the vet. My dog lived a long and happy life after his small op!!
Try looking up spindle cell sarcoma / carcinoma. Your vet will take a sample from the lump if you allow it and send it for a biopsy. They should know the results within a week. My dog had spindle cell cancer. It was not life threatening but she had it removed as it can spread to the lungs wher it does become a killer.
I only remember it grew very fast within days. From small to the same size as you describe. She is 12 years old now and had her first one removed at about 6 years old.
I dont mean to worry you as there are probably many things it could be. But that was my experience. She did not flinch when it was touched though. Does it move around and is slightly squidgy, but seems to have roots?

Ah bigmamma cannot help with your question but I do hope everything goes well for your lady. Its such a worry when these things are found and worse still they cannot tell you if they are in pain, love to you and your baby hope things are not serious when you see the vet.Keep us informed please. Bless g.
Thankyou so much for your answer jedimistress , it has grown fairly quickly and I shall be relieved when the vet has a look , she is very friendly though very excitable as she is a 46kilo black labrador , so do you think she will need to be sedated for the biopsy if she wont sit still ? She flinches when I touch it and it is squidgy feeling but feels fairly tough. xxx
No I donlt think so. The vet just sticks a needle in, like taking blood. But they take cells out instead. If they remove the lump, they will remove as much as they can and it will then be sent off to see if there is a clear margin of healthy tissue.
Again, it could be something completely inocouous so donlt panic too much. If it is anything worse you have caught it in plenty of time.

Try not to worry too much mamma, Max has just had a similar lump on his back, which was quite large. Luckily it turned out to be a cyst. The vet Rachael eventually Lanced it and prescribed a couple of injections and some antibiotics, He's ok but he looks sorry for himself with a 4inch square shaved in his hair as the site has got to be cleaned daily and allowed to heal in the air There are lots of things it could be most of them relatively harmless so as I said try not to worry too much till you've seen the vet
Don't worry hippyhoppy , I am sorry your lovely dog , who I can see as your avatar , is now only with you in fond memories xx
Hi pastafreak honey , you are right , if it is anything then hopefully it has been caught early.
