Frankie's been shot.

My gorgeous ginger tom Frankie became ill and listless last night, so trip to emergency vet. Kept in over night and given pain killing injection and antibiotics. No better this morning. Very high temperature which wouldn't come down, so this afternoon he was sedated and x-rayed, and an air rifle pellet was found lodged in the wall of his abdomen. Fortunately it appeared to have missed his vital organs. He was operated on this afternoon to remove the pellet which had set up an infection. Latest news, he has survived the operation but is still very ill. So will be staying at vets for the time being. The police are going to collect the pellet from vets so that they can identify the type of air-rifle used. Hoping for a full recovery, but the worrying thing is there are small children who live next door, plus other pets around our small, rural, and very quiet cul-de-sac. How sick can some people be, it's beyond me. Some hooligan on the loose with an air-rifle is scary, and I hope for the animals and childrens sake that the person responsible is soon caught.

Hi Schutz:
A horrendous thing to happen - we take it for granted, don't we, that our little moggies will return home safe and well?
I hate to say it but there must be some sad sicko living quite close to you in all probability (not that you probably haven't realized that yourself!), but most of us don't like to think the worse of our neighbours, do we?
In my experience it may not necessarily be just "some hooligan with an air rifle" - it could just as easily be someone you never would have suspected. I say that because a "perfectly respectable" old guy who we used to live next to was found to have caused one of our cat's feet to get badly cut by slicing the top off some tin cans, embedding them into the fence posts with the jagged bit sticking up so that our cat cut her paws when springing up onto the post. Nasty, huh? And that was because he was trying to stop the cats getting into his garden. He hadn't even let us know there was a problem!
Anyway, I sincerely hope that Frankie (we also have a ginger tom - "Riley") makes a full and speedy recovery and that the Police have every success finding the moron responsible.

Oh Schutz- i am so sorry......there are some real BEASTS out who masquarade as humans. What compels them to commit such horrors is beyond me. Please keep holding on to the fact that your vet has done all that is possible....now frankie needs rest and loving support from you.
On a lesser but still horrifying note....some years ago,I awoke one morning to find my little huntress Mitzy with a wire rabbit snare wound around her neck. How she freed herself...without chocking at the same time ...is forever a mystery. Yet some fool saw fit to set these traps near a residential area where both children and pets walked.

Cathy. Lots of spoiling and fuss, if all goes well, poor Frankie has had it rough, as he was dumped by his previous owners, and we found out when we'd had him for 3 days that he had epilepsy, but he was doing so well on his medication, and now for this to happen. Fingers and toes all crossed for him.
Paraffin. Thanks for your thoughts. I'm glad you don't live next to that horrible old man any more. What a thing to do !!!
Ruthann. Will definitely keep everyone who has been kind enough to reply, updated tomorrow. The police do seem to be taking this seriously, they did say how sorry they were about Frankie, and also how worried they were about the children, so I think they'll try to do there best to catch the person responsible.
Redhelen. 5 cats, that's great. What lovely names they all have. I hope I have still got 3 cats tomorrow.
Pastafreak. Thank you so much for your concern. I do hope your little Mitzy made a full recovery.
Ruthann. Thank you for passing on the message from Madaboutcats.
It helps to know all of you are there for support when things like this happen. I will let you know how Frankie is tomorrow. Schutz.

So sorry to hear your news Schutzengel and I do hope Frankie makes a full recovery. I am so very angry that people can do this - I'm afraid I would want to do the same to them. I can understand though that you are concentrating on Frankie at the moment.. I will be thinking of you all and Flossie and Daisie send love too
