One of my cats keeps losing his collar, with the magnet looped through it, to get in the cat door!

The magnets are $25ea! (I live in New Zealand.)

The other 2 never lose theirs, which are buckle ones. What sorts of collars can you recommend?

I might have to nail or glue the magnet on him. Lol.

Question Author
Eh?

This question was disappeared!

But now it's undisappeared?
Question Author
Anyway.............

That's what I'd been interwebbing, red.

But I can't find any micro-chip activated cat doors in NZ. - yet. I hope.
I think he means don't bother with a collar and just get them micro-chipped instead in case they get lost. My cats don't have collars. My previous cats had them, hated them and nearly always lost them.
Question Author
Have rung a few vets.

Not one has heard of the micro chip activated cat door in NZ.

So welding the collar to my cat it is!
Could you not teach him to knock on the door :)

This web site has them http://www.catflaps4microchippedcats.com/#/new -smart-flap/4533355286
Question Author
He doesn't so much knock at the door as bang it or throw his shoulder into it! He taught himself!

No NZ outlet for those cat doors, reefgal.
Question Author
Fantastic, reefgal. Thank you!
Your welcome MWB

They are expensive, but Pooh has lost 5 magnets in his short 3 years so far, & would lose more probably.

So this would be cheaper in the long run.

And it's only about $15 to micro chip each cat.

Brilliant!

surbabu - how is that relevant? you keep posting that on questions in here, sounds to me like advertising.

MWB, I know your problem, my ASBO loses collars within minutes normally. I gave up with the magnetic flap and now just spend a fortune on feeding every cat in the neighbourhood.
Question Author
Yeah, as if that site can help me build a micro chip activated cat door?

ASBO, barmaid? Great name.

Do you still have any of the magnets from that cat door?

I probably have one kicking around - the others are undoubtedly in the corn field across the road!!!!
Question Author
I'd like to buy the magnet off you.

What price would you sell it for?

Seriously.
sorry MWB,
as ganesh said, i was referring to IDing your pets with a chip and getting rid of collars altogether. Change the cat flap to a standard one.
Question Author
No, I don't want the neighbourhood cats coming in the door. The house is their safe haven.
You can have it for nowt if I can find it! (Bear in mind that this house is not the tidiest of places and it will be like looking for a needle in a haystack!)

Just had a thought - can you get them off ebay cheaper?
