There was a huge spider in the bedroom last night and I am terrified of them. My husband tried to hit it but only managed to knock two of his legs off and the the spider dissapeared. I made him get all the furniture/bed out etc., but to no avail. Now he told me that because it only has six legs left that it will go away and just die. Is this true or is he just saying it to shut me up???
thanks

Perfectly harmless, we all have them in our houses ! However they can play havoc with your sex life if they appear above the bed at an inopportune moment !!! :-) LOL
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but loss of legs is not fatal. A young spider will rer-grow lost legs, each time they moult the leg gets bigger, but anyway ....

I hate spiders as well, but it's probabey that you won't see Cannonball again. We only see them as they make their way around our homes, and they do eat flies etc., so try and tolerate them if you can.

Nice of your husband to try and allay your fears though.
As I live alone I have to deal with them in the humanest possible way (I hate to harm them). I get them onto either a toilet brush or one of those spoons with holes in you use for vegetables so their legs get muddled up and then rush to an open window and flick them out. It gives me the creeps but I could not sleep knowing they were on the move. Last week one dropped onto my pile of clothing in the bedroom and I couldn't have ever worn any of it again until I found it by pulling it off bit by bit with the toilet brush till it ran up the wall.
Did I hear ...SPIDER !!!!!

I won't settle until the spider is outside or ...dead
I am disgusted with all of you anti-spider ABers. Don't you know they do nothing, but good. Can you spin webs, and catch flies like they can? I think not.

"If you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive".

Does anyone know the rest of this poem?
Don't think its a poem, its an old proverb.

Craft: that made me laugh and reminded me of an old cat I used to have who would do the same but I would not let her on my lap for days afterwards in case she burped it up!!!
Put conkers all around the bedroom, they just don't like the smell.
My labrador plays with them by making her mouth soft , and although they're a bit wet by the time they've been in and out of her mouth , they are always still alive when she's finished and they scamper off , complete with all their legs .
I'd rather have a spider in the room than flies any day! I get a bit nervous if one gets too near to me though, don't want one on me haha.
I got a huge one living in my inglenook, it's called samson and comes out whenever I vacuum the carpet nearby then just runs back again.
DON'T KILL SPIDERS.
Utterly harmless. It's probably tegenaria domestica, tegenaria being from the Latin for a mat -maker, because its web is like a mat, and domestica 'belonging to the house; of one's family'.Isn't that sweet, ' the family mat-maker' ? Aaah !
Craft, can I borrow your dog please? I have a big spider in the bathroom and my hubby is out, I am busting for a wee but too scared to go in there!
Is there only me on this site who diesn't mind spiders at all? Infact i've got a bit of a spot for them.

Give me spiders in a room anyday over dirty flies, especially bluebottles.
I don't mind spiders either B00...my little dog thinks they're playmates. After he's patted them on the head a couple of times he gives me a look that says 'Well, he's no fun anymore' :o)
I agree with you BOO. I used to be terrified of them but would never harm them. I trained myself to not be terrified because I didn't want my fear to show up to the children and now I find that I can live peaceably with them and they are welcome in my home, unless they physically get on to me. I still can't handle a spider over 1/2 inch!

Unfortunately the JR and the cat have other ideas and I find lots of bodies!! Sad.
Oh, hello Robinia :o)
Hey hiya Robinia xx

I had one that lived behind my fireplace, he was HUUUGE, we named him Simon, and when we had a wooden floor down i swear you could hear him stomp across the damn thing. Even the dog wouldn't go near him.
yoohoo ladies...I'm getting a lot of those jumpy spiders at the moment (zebras?)...they can't half shift, haha!
