We have a kitten aged about 7 weeks and she bites and scratches us all the time. Anyone recommend anything we can do to get her out of this painful habit?
It's perfectly normal kitten play and if she was still with her brothers and sisters she would be playing just the same. To try and stop her would be to try and stop a child playing when they are very young. At 7 weeks it can't hurt that much. You will just need to be on your guard. If she shows aggressive behaviour, as she gets used to you it will become less and less. She might be just nervous at the moment. Most people with very young kittens have arms full of scratches.
We have a 5 month old Siamese Kitten, she bites and scratches but only when she is playful. We also have arms full of scratches but hey give the kitten a break because it is learning and all kittens do this behaviour. Our kitten is by no means a saint and yes she climbs curtains and tries to eat off plates too! but a firm no usually does it for us and she understands but I would not swap her biting or scratching for the world as she is not always like this an niether will you kitten be like this forever. Good luck and keep persevering.
Trouble is if you squirt a kitten with water it won't necessarily associate it with playing roughly and might just not like you any more and keep away? Dogs are easier in that respect they forgive more easily. This behaviour will get better as she gets older.
