They used to run about in the kitchen until I blocked all the gaps under the kitchen sink where the pipes come in. You can use that expanding foam that comes in a can.
To catch any already in, I used humane traps but you have to release the mice at least half a mile away or they'll find their way back, apparently!
And I have an old cat who is extremely attentive mouse-wise, for the half hour he manages to stay awake every day...
