Just saw a sparrowhawk take a pigeon from my garden. Poor pigeon didn't know what hit it and all that is left is a scattering of feathers. Cruel but a magnificent sight.

cruel?

Cruel would have been your neighbour hitting it with a broom
That's not cruel at all, it's exactly how it should be

PS: If I had my way all pigeons would be shot! Go sparrow hawk
Inspiring sight though... nothing cruel about it the Sparrowhawk is hungry.... the pigeon is lunch
It is no more cruel than a blackbird eating a worm.
If the Sparrowhawk does not get it one of the other Raptors will.
The way Nature works

I know it's nature and as it should be but...... Lol ojread2, my daughter was a housing officer and said they were just flying rats and should be exterminated for the damage they caused.
But human beings NEVER cause any damage do they, oh no (not much)!!!
That's Mother Nature for you! Makes you jump doesn't it?
Had a Sparrow Hawk take a sparrow in full flight no more than 3ft away from me once, made me jump about 3ft!
Hi maggiebee!

The first time I saw this happen it was a large female spawk and she dived into a forsythia bush full of sparrows having a chat. They all went crazy for a bit, but then went back to chatting amongst themselves as though nothing had happened.

It does make us squirm a bit, but they only take what they need for themselves and for their kids and not for the sake of killing - like we do!
