Wonderful, very jealous!
Only had a woodpecker in my garden once, and that was at our last house when we had a much bigger garden.
I live in hope that I might see one again, meantime I shall sit and enjoy all the finches on the bird feeders outside

Saw a sparrowhawk kill & eat a starling yesterday at my mothers house. It was a bit gruesome as it took about 10mins for the hawk to kill it! Lots of squarking & distress calls from the starling:-(
Had a few sparrowhawks at our old house Carrust. One flew into our living room window, while one of our cats was lying there - the hawk had a balckbird in his beak - the blackie got away when he hit the window - both survived. I wondered if the hawk fancied his chances with the cat!

30yrs ago we had to send records of sparrowhawks to my local bird group as they were quite rare. I usually see them daily now.
Snap!! I looked out of the window after seeing this and there was one on my suet block, it was a male with the red spot on the back of the head.
When I used to walk Max I often saw woodpeckers but never had one in the garden and never when I'd got a camera handy. In regards to the sparrow hawks we often get one sitting on a neighbours TV aeriel, studying the menu on the local bird tables, it amazing how the birds seem to sense it's about and disappear.
