Come on Ed...Stop all this nonsense with Avatars.

Things are not going forwards but backwards.

My Avatar is now like a chess pawn.

Someone somewhere is playing games and I am not amused.

Ron.

"Come on Ed...Stop all this nonsense with Avatars."

As I've said, many, many, many times: the issue is with Gravatar serving the wrong images. Our hourly update "cache buster" is a way of waking it up, but is not fool-proof.

You are already aware of this. I am unsure why you are posting about this issue, again.
Question Author
I am posting again because I have my doubts that the fault is with Gravatar.

You have in AB my Avatar which is being sent to you and is correct in my profile. It's a bit like someone sending me an e/mail with a photograph and whatever alterations I make to the original photograph after I have received it cannot be blamed upon the sender.

Very annoyed....Ron.
I see your usual avatar.
I will magic it back for you!!
See!!
you're looking totally normal to me, Ron. Of course it's now after the hour.
your back to normal ron :)
Nowt like calling the Ed a liar...........

Hi boxtops......I get bothered when I fail to understand things, correctly. My concern at the moment is that Gravatar is being blamed for Avatars being altered within the columns of AB, but there hasn't been any explanation for Avatars remaining correct within individual profiles. Hence the reason for my thought that something is going amiss within AB. after it has taken possession of the original Avatar.

Ron.
"You have in AB my Avatar which is being sent to you and is correct in my profile."

It's a different avatar in the profile view due to it being a different size. when you see avatars in this view gravatar is sending a 64x64 version of your avatar, in the profile view it's sending a 128x128 version of it.

To use your analogy... if I was to email you a picture and then 5 minutes later email you a larger version of the same picture you have two entirely separate versions of that picture, the fact they are a picture of the same thing is irrelevant.
Question Author
Sorry Chuck....I can't really follow what you are saying.

In my mind, a different size of the same image should not alter the the picture content.

Ron.
So if you took a photo and then got a print of that photo blown up to poster size and put on your wall you'd expect any edits you made to the original photo to magically be mirrored on the poster?
it does, though, Ron. If I wanted a big picture and a small picture, of the same subject, I'd have to make two versions of it; I can't just click Print and imagine they'll come out different sizes. I have to make them that way.
Question Author
Chuck and jno...It now seems to be that I am whistling down wind on this one.:-)

I still remain at a loss to understand what is really going on. My Avatar has been altered on two occasions within the columns of AB and I do not know by whom or why this has been done; despite the fact that the image in my Profile has not been amended in any shape or form.

Ron.
don't worry about it, Ron, it usually changes straight back again on the next hour. Mine was changed to Gravatar's own icon, so I am very elite; other people have just got little grey men.
I still don't understand how the avatar against my posts changed to something that just happened to be rather obnoxious to me, and which certainly wasn't on my Gravatar account, whilst the one on my profile remained as it should be. One of those little mysteries of life I suppose.
well, you could see malice in it if you believed in intelligent design, naomi, but it appears to have been just blind chance as you might expect in a godless universe. People have got all sorts of duff avatars (see Chuck's explanation above of why the profile ones differ from the on-page ones); the blue G that I got seems to be the most common, along with the grey men.
jno, are you feeling quite well?
