House Plant Problem

I have a thick, very sticky white substance on some of my conservatory plants. I presume it is from an insect as it doesn't look like mould. I have sprayed it with insecticide but nothing shifts it. Any ideas welcome. Should I get rid of the plants?

This sounds like whitefly. It is the bane of plants in conservatories and greenhouses. An old remedy that my late father-in-law used was good old washinup liquid in water. Give the plant a good dousing and it should do the trick. I expect there are other things on the market, but I always used the old remedy to goo effect.

Thanks Carole. I never actually see the white flies. What is the actual substance - is it white fly eggs? I will definitely try washing up liquid tomorrow.

I agree, a good wash with Fairy Liquid then wash it off.

Whoops, judiewudie - I didn't wash it off!! I sprayed them with a mix of washing up liquid and water - about 1 part detergent to 10 parts water - just what I do with the greenfly in the garden. They look OK though. Time will tell!!!!

Well, I must have dreamed I got rid of those plants - they even look more healthy than ever before and I don't remember some of them. Oh well, I'll just put them outside for the duration of the Biddybash!

neti tiptoes in dreading to find more green plant type thingies - nothing wrong with plastic plants, look fine to me. Can't stand (or kneel) weeding, hoeing, and all that gumf. Oh yes espys large TV in corner of conservatory, but who's that sleeping in MY armchair?
