Time it was renamed "Hysterical Rants". One poster even got flamed for asking for more details of a news item he'd seen (precisely the sort of thing you'd imagine the group was for).

Instead, it's full of rants about paedophiles, immigrants, Muslims, invented political correctness items, and imaginary European laws.

Rojash, I posted the following response to a question some time ago in another category, but it seems apt here, too...

I now visit the �News' category of AnswerBank in exactly the same spirit as London's Victorian toffs arranged a Sunday jaunt to Lambeth, specifically to the Hospital of St Mary of Bethlehem there, better known as the lunatic asylum...Bedlam. That is, for a laugh.

Looking at a random sample of �News' questions and answers from recent months, one is forced to conclude that several contributors there - no names, no pack-drill! - are borderline demented, too. In the face of such persistently benighted bigotry and monumental - though apparently blissful - ignorance of relevant facts, laughter and silence are the only rational responses.

There was a time when one could have a reasoned news debate with at least some users; sadly, the �News' category is now little more than a �Daily Mail' supplement and I long since ceased taking such comics seriously.

(If this attracts any responses, I shall be commenting no further. I think my view is 100% clear as it stands.)

Sadly, I have to agree rojash. I used to enjoy the news section when ABers debated a controversial issue with reasoned argument. This seems to have been replaced by ranting, racism and intolerance of opposing points of view.

It's a shame really, but indicative of a growing tendency in our culture to shout indignantly about issues, rather than discuss and question our own beliefs as much as disagreeing with another persons viewpoint.

I was accused of condoning rape in the News Section because of a posting of mine stating my feelings on 'lynch mob' mentality. I personally, will not post on that section again. Fortunately, the Ed. got rid of the posting concerned.

Dear Neti - since your direct query to me has nothing to do with the sad disintegration of the News category - I am happy to reply to you. Yes, I have learned things here on AnswerBank. Indeed, I just checked My Profile and find I have asked 28 questions myself over the years, all of which brought helpful information in response. Apart from that, of course, I have picked up much information I might never have come by otherwise. Believe me - as I have admitted here many times before - one could fill hangars with things I don't know! Thank you for the kind comment, nevertheless, ma'am.

I agree with all of the above posts and I am one of the ranters!I admit freely I go off on one when I am personally targetted and I'm not paranoid.I have been publicly humiliated on more than one occasion.I just dont understand why it has degenerated to public/personal slanging matches which as it happens,although we are just User Names we are all human, and I do take it personally and I do feel hurt.I have been guilty in getting caught up before and I hold my hands up.

I have no problems on other sites - so I think I'll give the News/Wind-up/Vitriolic Site a swerve in future!
