Too many to mention, i love Dean Koontz he has to be my favourite author along with Nora Roberts, Mary Higgins Clark, Dan Brown, James Patterson.

off the top of my head i would say angels & demons & the da vinci code, both brilliant reads.
The other Boleyn Girl is about Mary Boleyn, Annes sister. The book I'm reading about is Jane Boleyn, Annes brother Georges wife.

Its a bit confusing isn't it! Lol

A Town like Alice & To Kill a Mockingbird (Also one of my favourite films!) are my favourite books, althought I am also a big fan of Harry Potter they are so well written. I love books and my ideal job would be sitting reading all day.
Question Author
Agree wholeheartedly mosesg. I think I must be a closet librarian LOL but I would hate the punters who would inevitably keep interupting me mid paragraph grrrr. !!!!

many thanks to you all<
Rosetta!! What makes you think librarians have time to read?!
Libraries are just internet cafes these days- they're not about books any more, sadly x

Bathsheba, tut tut. You know I meant the old fashioned kind. I have the spectacles, I can tie my hair back in a bun. For t he tweed skirt, twin set and pearls I may need to raid the charity shop. I can manage the clumpy shoes myself though I may need to buy the thick tights. Voila librarian!!
Seriosly, I know what you mean. On a recent very rare visit to London we stumbled on The British Library. Full of students with laptops, surrounded by all those magnificent books. I longed to rifle through them,, the books not the students.

Oh and the joy of the Treasures Room. Have you seen it ?
Its wow with knobs on!!!!!!!.
No Rosetta, I've never been to the British Library, sadly.
Gotta tell you though, I started work in libraries in 1969, and I've never come across the "typical" female librarian you describe! (Heck of a lot of gay male ones though!) x

Darn it, I have been practicing glaring at people over the top of glasses as well lol.!!! I was getting quite good at it too.
Hi your Author is great but The Hobbit is by far the best book he wrote. In my opinion he got carried away with the story in the rings and found that he couldn't stop
Happy reading

And Rossetta what a lovely topic and fantasticly one question without an answer

Question Author
Dave G ,,thanks for that . Actually, Ive had a ball, ive got to talk to a lot of new people, natter about books and get some ideas for future reading.
Now two small things I have to nit pick with you. Firstly, and confusedly, there are two users on this site with very similar names. I am Rosetta. Rossetta chose her name, not realising I was around. She is going to try and change it but I suspect we may have to learn to live with it.
Secondly, and more importantly, Lord of the Rings is much better than the Hobbit. I have to confess I was spoilt as I read LOTR first and I suppose this became my bench mark. We will have to agree to disagree, but that is the beauty of books LOL
Hi Rosetta - Rossetta here x
Glad I found your post! Managed to contact the Ed, they are going to delete this name, wasn't sure I'd actually get on Answerbank today, so any day now I will be no more xx
Back to your question - Fave book -
I really enjoyed -
Mayhews London - Henry Mayhew - Big chunky piece of history on the everday people of London in the 1800s
Also loved Pepys diary xxx
Also any Liza Picard books xxx
Like a lot of the authors previously mentioned.

Can't believe the following authors haven't been mentioned:

Tom Clancy
Frederick Forsythe
John Grisham (well The Client and The Runaway Jury)
Douglas Adams

Also just read The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. A brilliantly written book and a very easy read.

On a side note: does anyone else read more than one book at a time?

I tend to read about 3 at a time. Currently reading Executive Orders, Runaway Jury and Motor World by Jeremy Clarkson
If you like the Tudor period, I'd recommend Dorothy Dunnett - her Lymond books starting with The Game of Kings cover parts of the reigns of Ed VI and Mary (plus Ivan the terrible, Henri II and Suleiman the Magnificent!) and the prequels in the Niccolo series are set around the time of the Wars of the Roses.

If you like detective stories then Lindsey Davis' Falco series are intriguing and full of fun in ancient Rome and elsewhere in the Empire.
