Would never occur to me the check out the gender of an author. Most of the time I don't even bother to check the name. If I do I'm unlikely to recall it.
I love Dickens but not all of them!

It just is impossible to pick a single favourite book really, as my tastes are varied.

I hope I don't sound too pompous...but...I sincerely hope I have not read it yet.
Someone mentioned Stephen King, which brought to mind James Herbert. Has anyone read 'Fluke'? Not a voluminous tome, but a fascinating concept.

I know he's been mentioned before, but Peter James really is good..I have today started reading 'Dead Tomorow' and already don't want to put it down !
