Is it just me or do you do this?

Yesterday I bought "The Interpretation of Murder" to start reading this morning. Beforehad, though, I scrupulously peeled off the stickers that said "Winner: Richard and Judy's Bookclub" and "Buy one get one half price" (WH Smith's - not a bad offer).

I suddenly realised that i do this with all the books I buy -for some reason that I can't explain I hate books to have stickers or any kind of marking on the front. I like them to be as nature (or in this case the publisher!) intended, as it were.

Now, is this just me? Am I just being terribly an*l about this? Or do you do the same?

I hate stickers.I used to work in a bookshop and every month as new promotions sterted we used to have to peel off all the old stickers from one set of books and put the new stickers on another set.

I'm glad I am not the only one!

And I am the same with CD's and DVD's too. Mmm.. meths to get the last bit of gum off - never thought of that, I may have to try it. Because the only thing worse than a whole sticker is half a one!
Count me in!

I find the notion of Richard and Judy having a 'book club' somewhat amusing, and I always take all stickers off everything before I consume it. (oo-er!)
I love the smell of a new book and that soft creak when you open a hardback....bliss!
I do this too! thank god I'm not the only weirdo out there.

it really annoys me when the shops put the stickers over the title or description of a book as well.

Oh yes, the smell of a new book is fantastic!

I'm happy to read second hand books and am a frequent browser and buyer at the Oxfam down the road from where I work but there is something very special about opening up an uncreased, paper perfect new book!

I have never actually seen Richard and Judy's 'bookclub' - I auume it's a segment on their programme. Do you think they read them themselves or someone else does on their behalf and advises them on ahat they think would be a good "Dick 'n' Jude" book!?
They read what they`re told!!LOL
No,i think they are chosen for them, and they read them(or claim to). Some of the books they have are ok but i`ve always read them by the time they appear on the show :-)
I take stickers of everything to, they just ruin the image of book,cd etc. I have noticed recently as well that certain stores put there security labels over the blurb on games so you haven't a clue what they are meant to be about
Guess you caught a mood: I take stickers off every book.

You've all made me feel so much better!

I shall continue happily with my de-stickering
Down with Stickers... but what really gets me are the people who "break" the spine of books Urrgh. How can anyone do that to a poor defenseless paperback?
I hate these stickers too - I have a friend who lends me lots of books and she leaves stickers on them so I have to peel them off and then feel guilty because they arn't mine. I do it to library books too - I have even gone in under the plastic covers to get at them! And yes I do it to CDs too.
I do that too!! But I also (and tell me if this is nerdy) will not buy a book if the front cover is a photo or art work from the film adaptation - I want the original, thanks very much!
Little tip for you all, take the sticker off, fold in half and hey presto an instant book mark.

I do that too Maddie'sMum! Hated the Lord of the Rings ones with the photos of film scenes on the cover although did enjoy the film!
