Anyone know this book?

It was given to me in the 1940s and was called 'Peter in Sweden'. It was a children's novel and was about a boy called Peter whose father was at sea and who was sent to stay with his relatives in Sweden - Tante Bertha and Kissemisse the cat ( who was 'lost and found' in onechapter) and two children: a boy older than him and a younger girl. it tells of the culture shock and the way Peter deals with being a"foreigner". I should love to reread it, but do not remember the author's name, so have no hope of looking it up,although I scour shelves in second hand bookshops in the hope of falling into it somehow.Have the feeling the author was female. Any help appreciated.

Ethel Mannin?
The only problem with this is,it was published in 1959,and not the 1940's.
However, here is Wikipedia's page about Ethel Mannin,in case it is her book.

I'm amazed you remember the name of the cat and the aunt, flicrat! (Kissemisse = Pussycat BTW.)
I don't know the book but IF the author is Swedish(?) you might be able to find it again with the help of The Swedish Institute for Children's Books. As you can see they're closed for the summer but do get in touch with them when they open again. It won't be for sale there of course but who knows, they may agree to copy it for you if you're willing to pay? I'll help if I can, just post a FAO swedeheart in this category and I'll probably see it.

Thank you alexanderd and don't worry- i shall be scouring secondhand shops. And, I shall mobilise my sister in Norfolk and my ex in Herefordshire, as they often go to places with a wonderful selection. I am full of enthuiasm for the chase!!
Oh and the only other use for books was, i thought, for boys to stuff down their trousers when being caned - though my great grandfather used the family Bible for his gtrandchildren to stand on when they looked through his telescope ( pre WW1) !
