New Braces
4 Answers
Hello. My thirteen year old daughter has just had braces fitted on her top and lower teeth. The poor mite is suffering with the braces where they are attached to her molars. There are sharp edges/wires which are sticking out at 90 degrees from the teeth. This is obviously causing abrasions to the inside of her cheek. Whilst we have been expecting some discomfort from the braces themselves, and the pressure, I find it hard to understand why the braces have these sharp wire ends sticking out as they are. Is this right?
Any help and guidance would be appreciated.

Better than the wax they give you, you can use the wax that earplugs are made out of!! No joking, this was a tip from my orthodontist. They are covered in a cotton wool which you remove but this wax is so much softer when softened between your fingers and a great barrier between teeth and mouth.
I must say I was glad to get the things removed at the end but they were well worth putting up with when you see the result!

i had braces top and bottom for 10mths, yes i had sharp bits on braces but only cos my teeth moved so fast and i got them tightened regularly. i used the wax but never had an major discomfort. a few small cuts inside mouth at the back but wasnt too painful, dentist should be able to keep the wires nice n short tho.
I would recommend you to wear Invisalign if you find trouble with braces. I visited Hello ortho for Invisalign treatment. Recommend you to do the same. Visit https:/ /www.he lloorth o.com/ to know more details.
