itchy scalp
4 Answers
I am male with lots of hair but I often have an itchy scalp. I have treid two or three methods of control without success. At the moment I am using Oilatum shampoo with works to a dgree but not as well as advertised on the bottle. Standard anti dandruff shampoos don't seem to work all that well either. Any ideas please - it is not serious but a real nuisance.

You could try intensively moisturising your scalp for 30 mins or so, then shampooing: slother something like olive oil or a lighter almond oil onto your scalp, work it right into the skin with your fingers then wrap your head in a towel and leave as long as possible - overnight if possible. Shampoo and rinse, repeating several times to get all the oil out.

They sell some stuff in Lush that my husband finds quite good, having tried loads of products without success, including a coal tar based preparation prescribed by the GP. It comes in a bar and is called 'snake oil' (!) - you melt some in the microwave and massage into the scalp, leaving it for an hour or so before shampooing.
My OH has just developed a flacky scalp and he tried everything too including shampoo recommended by the pharmacist and almond oil recommended by the nurse, but tyhe only thing taht cleared it up was some eczema cream prescribed by the doctor.
I on the other hand, maganed to rid myself of an itchy scalp by changing to a more natural shampoo bought in the health food shop. I'll never know which ingredient I was allegic to but there is something in many hair producst makes our scalps flair up.
