I've just been prescribed Nitrofurantoin for a water infection from the walk in centre, and have just noticed that it says to be careful if you are Vit B deficient. I'm b12 deficient (under control), will this matter? I've had one already.

btw will update you on bp med shortly, waiting to get results!

Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin) is fine for you to take. I presume that you mean that you have Pernicious Anaemia and having B12 injections.

No problem.

Yes having B12 injections. Thanks squad x
Sorry for the delay...dropped off to sleep..;-)
Question Author
no problem, just nice to get the reassurance! x
@creamegg Isn't it a bit dangerous taking medical advice from some random person on a forum? Would it not be better to call the NHS helpline to get proper medical advice? Just a thought because I would never take medical advice from anyone other than someone I definitely knew to be a trained medical health professional.
I believe Sqad's credentials have been checked out.
Sqad is a retired ENT Consultant and thoroughly knowledgeable in all areas of medicine. He's also the love of my AB life. ;)
advice from squad or NHS Direct? Now there's a quandry ;)
LOL...C'mon....not "all areas".

I am cr@p at Dermatology and Psychiatry........oh! and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.............not that good on Cardiology.

I think JaneDoe has got a point.
Sqad and random? Don't go together somehow.
Jan. Understand your concern but the best piece of medical advice I have ever received was from Sqad. Knowledgeable, experienced and straight to the point......no faffing about.
You have my address for the cheque Sqad? x
@Ummmm and NoMercy. So his credentials have been checked out by whom? How? I thought AB was anonymous? I could say I was a GP/Gyno/ Obstetrician whatever and start giving out advice to people, so would I have to post up my Qualifications or give my Uni details? No disrespect to Squad but anyone can be anyone on a Forum as its so easy to do a Wiki search and sound like you know what you are doing. I have followed Squads posts and if I had posted about a health issue and he suggested Ibuprofen to me I would probably be severely ill if not dead by now . This was not a malicious post just a heads up to the OP that perhaps they should not take as gospel something suggested on a Forum. A qualified medic (retired or otherwise) would also be very reticent about handing out medical advice without seeing a patient.
Forgot to say..a trained, medical health professional killed one of my husbands.....Sqad hasn't done that yet.
gness.......you address?.......can you hear your bell ring?......it's probably me.

You didn't sign the cheque ;-)
You would only be severely ill or dead if you took the Ibruprofen knowing you reacted to it. In all probability you would also have mentioned to the medic too........
JaneDoe2,

I'd have to refer you to paragraphs 2 and 3 in 'The Terms'.

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/AB-Editors-Blog/article/the-answerbank-terms-of-use/

@chilldoubt yes very interesting wonder if a) anyone has actually read that and b) if they take any notice? LOL!
Yes Jane those of us that have been here for years have read it and use common sense.
I remember reading somewhere that 90% of those who die do so while under the care of a doctor

just sayin'
I have taken Sqad's advice on many occasions and have always been grateful for that advice. Not found him wanting yet. (sqad - that last sentence does not have a double meaning)
@eccles -yes a medic ,not someone on a Forum , that's the problem. People don't always give full information when expecting diagnosis on a Forum. The Ibuprofen is perhaps a bad example as most people know if they are allergic or have bad reactions but some people may be given advice that is contra-indicative to their current meds., Sometimes a Internet search pulls up more problems that solutions.
