Memory Foam Pillow?
24 Answers
I have bought a memory foam pillow as I have a trapped nerve in my neck that I am in agony with!
I usually sleep on 2 feather pillows and last night my head felt so low down - should I have bought 2 of them or is 1 sufficient?

At first it was uncomfortable because I was comparing it to my old one, after just a couple of weeks or so, I find it very comfortable. Problem with memory foam (just like the mattresses) is that it can become somewhat warm, however I've located a company that produces matress covers and pillow cases that actually do stay cooler and more comforatable... The product is probably available in the U.K., should you need it...
With my retired professional head on. Did you head just feel strange because it was lower or was it making your neck worse? Often the pillow height that we are used to is too high and can cause neck pain or at least not help it. Memory foam pillows are designed to keep your spine in its proper shape and not bent as a higher pillow would do.
If it was me I would be persevering with the lower pillow for a few nights unless it is increasing your pain. If you decide that it really is too low, then a piece of foam or firm item underneath (folded towel in a pillow case) to raise it a little is better than a pillow.
Speaking personally I had a gyppy neck all my adult life. i would wake up with my head stuck turned to the left and had to walk around like it till I unfroze. I tried a memory foam pillow around 20 years ago and yes it felt low at first. Mine was on a 30 day trial so i persevered with it. It took about two weeks to get used to the new sleeping position and my neck has never played up since.

I have degeneration in my neck (painful, stiff and tight muscles that overcompensate for my weak neck). Ive bought lots of pillows and spent a fortune as most of them have been uncomfortable. However, the best one without doubt is the mediflow water pillow. The top layer is comfy pillow the bottom layer you fill with water till it get to the perfect height for your neck. It keeps your head and neck level. Its worth every penny, No plumping pillows up in the middle of the night!!

Woofgang - I think it just felt different because my head was lower than usual. I'll keep going with it to see if it helps and it necessary I'll put a towel under it - good idea!
Ilovemarkb - never heard of a mediflow pillow, might buy one if I really don't like the MF

I bought two pillows from Dunhelm last week which have springs in them like mattresses. They are wonderful as they support your head and neck. It's like sleeping on a comfortable balloon. You cannot feel the springs. The pillows stay puffy and don't squash up. The air can circulate in the pillow so they stay lovely and cool. I highly recommend them.
