Well I have walked in with a wad of scrips and walked out with carrier bags of stuff - let those that think they know the whole story rattle on all they like.

I get a carrier full of drugs every four weeks.

I agree with JJ, the overprescribing of drugs is costing the NHS £millions and is a concern for many professionals in the medical field, particularly antibiotics and anti -depressive drugs.

Getting antibiotics out of my doctor would be like getting blood out of a stone. Rest and plenty of fluids seems to be the most frequent prescription from him. Thankfully I keep very good health and doubt if I see him more than once a year. Sympathise with those who do need a cocktail of drugs to keep going, can't be fun.

Surely, Sqad, the doctors are the ones issuing the prescriptions. If they are running their 'business' properly then they will not over-prescribe or prescribe unnecessary drugs.

As patients we should also have some responsibility - and educate us not to run off to our GPs for anti-biotics when they really aren't needed.

All I am saying is everyone who walks out with bags of stuff is not ordering drugs for the sake of it.

Rather different to someone not finishing a course of antibiotics

oh but they are Mamy - it is to keep them right for their Disability Living Allowance. more drugs they are on - more to keep them on the DLA

wolf.....I agree.....but just see the number of posts on AB pleading for the posters to go to their GP for antibiotics.

The GP's are under pressure by the patients to prescribe antibiotics, a sort of "for God's sake give them antibiotics to get rid of them".........

Reminds me of the time my Husband had his op, we couldn't get some stuff locally so it was delivered by van.

A female collared me one day as the van left , she commented 'You're doing alright, all that free and delivered to your door'.

I politely told her the next time she was short of a colostomy bag I was sure we could spare her one.

I get DLA because of my disabilities not my drug regime. Still as you say Jenny you know these people.

No pleads anyone to go to the GP for antibiotics, bit dramatic there Sqad. They may suggest a visit to the GP which is slightly different.

Here in Spain we pay 30%. Unless you are of a certain economic level, or you have reached retirement.

Sam.......even retired folks pay 10% of the total value of the prescriptions.
