I've recently been seen by a consultant at the orthopaedic department in a local hospital & meant to ask to be sent a copy of the letter that she was sending to my GP but forgot. I've popped into my doctor's surgery today to ask for a copy of this & first of all was told I would be charged £1 for this but then after the receptionist spoke to another member of staff, was told I couldn't have this unless I speak to my GP first. Has the 'ruling' changed regarding this as in the past, albeit not for a long time, I've always been allowed a copy. Thanks

I don't have the answer to your question as such, thelewisgang, but any time myself or the boss has been seen at hospital and they have reported back to our GP, a copy of the letter has been sent to us as a matter of course.
It may vary from health board to health board.
Hi....when I forgot to ask the consultant to send me a copy of his letter to the GP I phoned the consultant's secretary. She was very helpful and I received my copy......about two or so years ago so things may have changed....x
I saw a specialist twice last year and received comprehensive letters from him after both my visits. Surely you should have been sent one by your consultant too? I visited the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.
Same here...a copy of hospital/specialist letters always arrives in the post without asking....sometimes frightening the life out of us!
I automatically get one from the hospital. Today I have received one from Papworth telling me I've missed my follow-up appointment when I never received the invite in the first place. Have now spoken to very nice ladies on the phone and am now rebooked.
