Dizziness
6 Answers
Had an hours appointment with dentist for a crown fitting about a week ago. Since then, starting that night, have spells of dizziness on lying down, sitting up and also looking up.
Never had anything like it before. Is this coincidence starting straight after dentist or is it linked? Only lasts for seconds but room spins round - not a good thing when you are on crutches.

It does suggest that if you had some wear and tear arthritis in your neck, then lying down for an hour in the dentists chair, then that may well have "stirred it up" and now when you move yopu head, it nips the blood supply to your brain via an artery that passes through your neck bones (vertebral artery). Nothing much that can be done about this other than to remember the movements that bring it on and to try and avoid these movements.
No big deal....at the moment.
Probably linked to the dentist's incident.

Could be inner ear connected - pure coincidence, I would guess. The next time this happens (unless lying down) try yanking, and I mean really sharply and abruptly, your head up/back as far as you comfortably can - do it sharply/quickly without fade-in/fade-out (if you see what I mean - as if hit in the face and stopping on a headrest). If the sensation disappears then it is very likely the crystals in your inner ear that are shifting about. I had this crop up intermittently over maybe 3 years but in the last year increasingly rarely, and now (touching wood) it has not happened for many months. It was decidedly disconcerting the first few times, read up on possibilities and tried the above - perfect result, mind completely at rest from there.

BUT......if it is not "crystals" in the inner ear, which it doesn't sound like and it is arthritis in the neck, then performing that feature described by Karl may put you in a spot of bother.
I would not advice this.

Thank you for all replies.
Was googling it (which you shouldn't!) and saw about the crystals.
Don't think it is blood pressure as am on tablets and took own reading after it happened.
Just have to try and avoid those positions.
Cracking up. Lots of other things going on as well.
Could well be arthritis, sqad, but no pain in neck. Lots of arthritis elsewhere though.
