I've had 2 seizures in the last 6months and have been started on Lamotrigine 25mg with intentions of it being increased slowly to 100mg twice daily -
this seems a large dose is it? Do you take this drug?

my brother takes 800mg of tegretol twice a day. hes had epilepsy for 15 years.
Lamotrigine therapy usually starts at 25mg daily for 14 days, increasing to 50mg daily for another 14 days. It can then be increased to a max of 50-100mg daily every 7-14 days. Maintainence as monotherapy can be 100-200mg daily in divided doses (i.e. twice daily). It has been known that up to 500mg daily has been required.

Whatever you do, don't suddenly stop taking Lamotrigine, and keep an eye out for side effects, as described in the medication leaflet. They are rare though.

Hope this helps.
My sister was diagnosed as epileptic at 20yrs old last year following 1 known seizure and 1 suspected - she was started on Epilim 300 BD and had to wait over a year to see a neurologist (its the norm in Ireland) - she was then told that this was the wrong tablet and she should have been on the lamicatal from the start as it is a much newer drug suited to younger females - she now has to take both - starting on lamicatal 25 and working up to 100 while weaning the epilim down - she is having massive headcaches as a side effect at the moment - but things are improving so u hang in there susie!!
