black cohosh and grey sage leaf are soposed to help with hot flushes, but it may not work for everyone!
whoops! anwsering wrong question! sorry!
my wife suffers with brittle nails. She was told to use Biotin which is available from Holland and Barrett. I can report that her nails have improved considerably
Hi homerbart.

Cut your nails short-ish (wherever is comfortable) and give yourself a home manicure. Soak, file with a soft emery board if necessary - no metal nail files.

Massage almond oil into the nails and cuticles and leave it to soak in (about an hour). Use a non-acetone nail polish remover to clean the nail and put on a base coat. Top up the base coat if it chips and only take it off - with a non-acetone remover - once a week to start the whole process again.

Wear rubber gloves when washing up or cleaning windows etc. (anything where your hands are in water). Rub almond oil into the cuticles of your nails each night. If you can stand it wear moisturising gloves overnight a couple of times a week.

If a nail breaks, shape and file it smooth with a soft emery board and add a layer of base coat until it's time to re-do your manicure.

It sounds like a lot of effort but it's not really and, although it'll take about 8 - 10 months, if you keep it up it'll make a difference.

thank you all for your answers - I never have cut my nails in ln my life would you believe - that is how short they are - get to a short length then break. any way the theme of my question was never really answered is cod liver oil good for you or am I wasting my time bye for now
gey yourself some sally hansen hard as nails, put it on everyday, it really worked for me!
firetracie is right - it is continually filing nails and manicuring them that count, not shovelling crappy supplements down your throat! i bit my nails for 25 years and they were abysmal when i first grew them. so bendy you could curl them round the end of my finger and breaking off all the time. i always file my nails now and keep them square ended (i think it makes them stronger in that shape), let the white tips grow no more than 0.5cms most of the time, do my own french polish and never dunk them in water for long periods. now my nails are my pride and joy. i'm not a girly girl, but do get lots of compliments about them and they are like steel!!! persevere and the effort will be worth it. x
