Low Blood Pressure
6 Answers
I have quite low Blood Pressure. On average, it's 98/65. The optimal Blood Pressure is around 120/80.
Although I have low BP, my resting heartrate (RHR), on average is about 85. Sometimes it's over 100. I exercise alot, so I would have thought I would have a lower, more healthier RHR.
Does anyone else have Low BP and a high RHR? Do you think this could indicate I may have a problem with my heart at some point? If you have low BP, do you encounter any problems, like dizziness when standing up from floor level?

Her GP seems unconcerned and tells her it's good to have low BP except she often feels faint on standing and other occasions.
She bleeds easily and appears to constantly lose blood in her stools following operation four years ago when she very nearly bled to death. Again, her GP is not worried. (I'm not impressed with her GP)
Do you bleed easily? Are you anaemic?

Low BP is extremely uncommon as a medical entity and is almost always secondary to something else e.g too high a dose of hypotensive drugs. Anaemia could cause low BP but unlikely and a simple blood test could rule that out.
Certainly postural symptoms can occur due to hypotension, but is usually due to too high dosage of BP tablets.

i currently have low BPand my RHR is always high (lower and higher than yours), but I do have a heart condition and the BP is linked to anaemia following the birth of my baby 14wks ago.
I often feel dizzy and have occasionally lost my balance completely - but its nothing serious and my body is still revovering from pregnancy!
If you are experiencing this kind of thing regularly you should definately go and see your GP. It maybe nothing but best to be on the safe side!
just a thought how did you find out your BP, I told my GP I'd been monitoring mine with one of those little digital wrist cuffs and was told that they're not very accurate!

Both my doctor and I have done my BP K8, using an electronic BP monitor, with arm cuff and it's always been low. I don't have Anaemia and I do get quite light headed if stooping down and then standing, even if I do this slowly.
My mother, who's in her 80's has Aortic Valve Stenosis and doctors discovered she had a heart murmur in her 70's, but nothing was ever done. I'm just wondering if her condition is hereditary, or as a result of old age..
Chrisrob, no, I don't bleed easily.

I tend to have low blood pressure as well, possible a family thing as my nan and grandfather (from different sides) did as well.
I do get dizziness (though have menieres as well) when it goes really low (it often bobs about between low and normal), mine was lower than yours when I had it tested the other week.
I had upping my salt intake suggested to me once but not for me as it makes the menieres worse and is generally unhealthy unless medically condoned.
I am monitored quite often due to immune suppressants I'm on and they note it and don't really get concerned unless it's affecting me eg fainting and dizziness.
You're not in the danger level (90/60 or below) as such but if you have other symptoms or problematic ones or are worried have a chat to your GP.
