My partner keeps getting really bad headaches, almost on a daily basis, therefore, he's always taking pain killers. He say's it's because he's stressed and he recently trapped a nerve in his neck, from coughing vigorously when he had a cold.

I keep urging him to see a doctor, but he refuses. Do you think it could just be stress and tension or something more sinister, like a Brain Tumour? Why won't men go to the doctors? I go to see my doctor at every opportunity.

He also eats alot of chocolate, a family sized bar of dairy Milk, almost everyday. Can chocolate cause headaches too?

it could be migraine which chocolate worsens all men are like that wih doctors i just ignore my bf when he moans about being ill saying unless he goes to dr i don;t want to know!! it usually works with no sympathy
It's not just men who won't go to the doctor,I have to be forced to go,or get dragged there by my fiance.I probably only see my GP once or twice a year despite the fact I have emphysema.

Idoubt very much your fella has a brain tumour,it could easily be stress that caused the initial headache and because he takes so many pain killers he is probably getting rebound headaches.

Never suspect a brain-tumour or cancer to your doc. Let the doc make the diagnosis as if you give the prognosis the doc is put in an impossible situation with his diagnosis, and faces being sued if he doesn't act on your prognosis. Migrane comes with wretching and illness.

Chocs do cause headaches as do glare (from pc screens). Nought wrong with me as I don't go near docs to find otherwise!
Doubt if it's a brain tumour V. thankfully few and far between, and more liable to be caused through stress, tiredness, or just generally being run down.

Hi there terambulan.
I've recently been diagnosed as having a brain tumour after having a full body scan for my other cancers and I haven't had any headaches just the odd stabbing pain for a few seconds at the side of my head now and again, I asked the specialist why and he said brain tumours don't usually show themselves as ordinary headaches until they get really big and then the headache would be really bad and there all the time so as your boyfriend's headaches aren't there all the time it probably is stress or maybe migrain, I would try to get him to see the doc so that he can find out why he has these headaches and get the right treatment, taking painkillers all the time can't be good for him. All the best.
gosh gelda.. I wish you well x

stress, chocolate, coughing.. all great headache causes. he needs to lay off the painkillers though, and if it's been more than a couple of weeks he should see a doctor. well, I would.. but I'm a woman!
I agree with the others - chocolate can be a trigger for headaches but talking pain killers too often can also be a cause. Get it checked out to be sure.
Sorry to hear your news gelda - love to you XX
my dear friend died of a brain tumour and I would say it could be a tumour BUT it could be a headadche. It sounds to me that a little improvement in the diet, knocking so much chocolate on the head, drinking a lot of water, fresh air etc.could help to start matters.
I don't agree with people not going to the GP but neither do I agree with people going at every opportunity.

Try sleeping without the central heating on and with the window ajar. A little self help may be all it needs and I hope he gets better soonxx
Lots of possibilites - from too much caffeine, through migraines to tumors. The likelihood is it is nothing serious, but having lost two friends to brain tumors I would recommend being cautious and try to get him to see the doctor.
"He say's it's because he's stressed and he recently trapped a nerve in his neck, from coughing vigorously when he had a cold."

That is a direct quote and I assume then that the headaches are recent. Brain Tumour, very UNLIKELY, migraine is usually intermitent, chocolate unlikely, trapped a nerve in his neck as he volunteered.....very LIKELY.
I know it sounds ridiculous, but overuse of painkillers can cause .... wait for it ..... headaches.
and dont forget high blood pressure can cause headaches and stress can cause high blood pressure
In totally agree with Panic Button, but it begs te question......for what condition are you taking the painkillers? It is that disorder that requires investigation.
it may just be from the cold and stress. I also pulled muscle in my neck from my coughing other week and had really bad pressure headaches from being all stuffed up. and yes chocolate isnt good for headaches or migraines
Migraines can take many, many forms. They don't always make you sick either. I have never been sick with my migraines.

My father died of a brain tumour. He never had a headache at all!

There are loads of reasons for headaches. At present I have an almost permanent one caused by a neck and shoulder problem which I am having treated. Yes, chocolates can cause headaches.

Don't get yourself into a state about the headaches being caused by a brain tumour it is certainly not the first thing a doctor will think of at all.
I hate to point it out to all those who mentioned painkillers causing headaches but.......I mentioned that in my post at 2.40am this morning!
Contrary to the commonly held belief of patients and physicians, chocolate does not appear to play a significant role in triggering headaches in typical migraine, tension-type, or combined headache sufferers.

It is a myth not a fact.
chocolate can help towards a headache in some people
