is breathing through our nose and out of the mouth the proper way of breathing?

i have notice for many years that i breathe through and out of my mouth. if i try and breath through my nose and out of my mouth for the whole day i tend to struggle. i have to take a deep breath from my mouth and out.

but when i'm out of breath say after exercise i force my self to breathe through my nose and out of my mouth about 10 times as it helps me catch my breath back quicker....(slows my heart rate down)

should i b concern or am i just plain weird?
should i start teaching my brain to breath the proper way?

Do you suffer from sinusitis? I normally breathe in through my nose and out my mouth, but at this time of year my nose is blocked, so I use my mouth only. It is a particular problem at night, and I wake up gasping for breathe.
WhiteBears............you have nasal obstruction which could be due to many things.....in the nose that is. LOL

Weird? You?........NEVER!. LOL
You are breathing correctly Whitebear as when you breath in the hairs in your nostrils prevent dirt from entering your lungs and also warms the airways. When you breath in your lower abdomen should rise and lower as you breath out. This was drummed in to me when I was preparing for a heart operation. Just, if you can, watch a baby breathing and you will see what I mean, they do it correctly.
frank, i suffer from hayfever and have alergies to furry things such as soft toys. my nose is always blocked when i wake up in the morning, also sometimes i get woken uo inthe middle of the night gasping for air!

sqad, are u saying im weird?? =(

carlton, so breathing through and out of mouth is normal? i always thought it through nose and out of the mouth?

carlton23 is right, The correct way to breath is from the stomach. Place your hand on your tum and breath out and in,feel your tum rise and fall with each breath. This is how babies breath fron birth.
Carlton and chinadog are in my opinion mis-informed.

Newborn babies breath through their nose and have to learn to breath through their mouths.

The correct way to breath in normal circumstances is in through the nose and out through the mouth.

sqad, thats what i thought, its like people who have panick or asthma attacks they are told to breathe though the nose this is same after exercising
This is one of the weirdest questions I've seen on on here. But despite this, I'm going to give you the right answer because I've been doing it for years; I'm a pro at it. You breathe in and out of your nose. Sqad, do you breathe in through your nose and breathe out of your mouth? You must constantly be opening your mouth just to breathe. That must look pretty weird.

lol i take it no one knows the proper way of breathing! so johnny no it is not a strange question

i deffo breathe in and out of my mouth, there are times i breathe in my nose out my mouth, but i do struggle to do that, deffo not in and out of my nose.
asthmatic sis had same....discovered she had broken nose from young & never had treatment.

Breathe thru nose as hairs filter germs.
Johnny....just watch people.....most of the time their lips are NOT closed, there is a small gap, enough to breath out of.
One doesn't have to have your mouth wide open to breathe out of it.

Right...try this, just to show which is more important:

Nip your nose and breathe in and out through your mouth. After a few minutes you are struggling.
Now close your mouth tightly and breath in and out through your nose......you can do that for so much longer, hence the nose is the more improtant organ for breathing.

White Bears.....do you take Flixonase for your allergies?
tambo...the nasal lining has no antibacterial properties at all.

The bacteria are too small to be filtered by the hair cells (cilia)
Well my mouth is always closed, apart from when I'm talking, eating or licking a toilet bowl, so I would find it a bloody effort to breathe out of my mouth. If I find I can't be bothered breathing in and out of my nose, I just breathe through my gills at the side of my neck.
johnny....LOL

Just a snippet on the correct way of breathing,
chinadog....good link, but that wasn't the question.

"Is breathing through our nose and out of the mouth the proper way of breathing? "

That was the question.

thanks china, very useful link =)
Some of these answers on this post made me laugh, Johhny especially. :P You are bad. lol.

Although i know where you are coming from WhiteBears, i sometimes breathe through my mouth, but i have sinusitus, and get hay fever etc, so find it difficult to breathe my nose at times. I get nasal spray and hay fever tablets for this.

Sounds like you might have something similar.

Maybe go to your docs and see what they say.

sqad617....Please read the link by chinadoll down below before saying I had it wrong and read my post thoroughly again.
carlton....I didn't say that you were wrong, I said that in my opinion yolu were misinformed.

Whitebears said that she breathed in and out through her NOSE.

You then told her that she was correct as breathing breathing in through your nostril prevent dirt and watms through air when breathing through tthe nose......but she wasn't greathing through her nose,,,,,,,,,,that was her point.

Never mind.....I have got it wrong.
