hi guys

just wondered if anyone knew the answer to this....

i have been reading up on the whole 8 glasses a day and discovered that is a general estimation and it really depends on your weight to how much you should have, ay my weight now i sould have 3 litres a day to be healthy which is approx 12 glasses!!!

anyway i just wondered this may be really healthy and good for you but if you do this consistantly over the years wont your bladder suffer? i mean working overtime like this?? or does this not have an affect on the bladder long term???

just thinking :)

That seems a lot of water to me.

The amount of "fluid" that you need depends upon many factors e.g where you live, what job that you do, how heavy or tall you are and quite frankly there is no correct answer.

Tips:
1) drink fluid before you feel thirsty
2) Check your urine to make sure that it is between colourless and slightly yellow.

Too coloured....drink more water.
Too pale......ease up on the fluids.
I liked an experiment they did on tv with twins and one drank all the recommended water over a period of time and the other didnt. At the end they did loads of tests and the results were identical. No noticeable benefit from all the water drinking.

Those 'guidelines' don't mean literally 8 glasses....but instead the 'equivalent'.....so that can be ANY liquid consumed along with naturally occuring liquid in foods such as fruit and veg.

Drink lots and lots of water.

Flush yourself through.

Your body will keep what it needs, and get rid of anything that it doesn't.
If you drink too much water, you could dilute the effects of any nutrients or any medication you are taking.

Water should always be sipped, not gulped. And avoid drinking fluids WITH your meals, as again you could dilute your digestive acids.

NoM...disagree entirely....no medical evidence to back that up at all.
I get plenty of fluids on a daily basis, usually at 13% abv.
It is quite difficult to over-drink, as obviously it makes you need to go to the toilet! It is possible to drink so much that you dilute the salts in your body too much, but as long as your urine is a pale yellow colour (it will be dark yellow in the morning, due to not drinking and losing water at night) and you're not always thirsty, you'll be fine.

Over-use of your bladder shouldn't be a problem, but unnecessarily holding on to water can be. If you need to go to the toilet, then you should and empty your bladder completely.

You just need to make sure you're sufficiently hydrated. Even slight dehydration can cause a significant drop in performance, be it sporting, working, trying to think. If you're thirsty, then you're dehydrated and need to drink (water or other fluid). Obviously you also consume water through what you eat.

You should be able to judge for yourself how much you need, I wouldn't worry about the actual amount too much. For example, if you're doing a lot of manual work or sport where you're losing water through sweating,you'll need to drink more, but also replace lost salts. If you're in an air-conditioned envirnment, you'll often find you need to drink more as the air is particularly dry. Similarly if it's dusty etc.

water intoxication is easier to get than you think.

detox is a fallacy - your liver and kidneys do all the work daily - if they didn't you'd be ill.

if you are healthy
widdle is an indicator - the trick is to look at what you are peeing
you can regulate the colour
(and smell - why is it always the night after with curry?) quite easily
go for champagne - a 250ml glass of non alcoholic liquid will shift you from bad to good.

if you excercise ... you need more.
but you should only need to pee 3 or 4 times a day
(but don't turn it into an endurance test)
and when you do - because you HAVE to - not because you SHOULD - your bladder is very elastic - it's actually good for it to be reasonably full
it should be clear (champagne) or light yellow not orange
I read recently that you should drink small amounts of water at a time, otherwise you can inbalance your sodium levels.lol.best probably to just sticking to what keeps you mentally sane!
