High Blood Pressure Medication
3 Answers
My 6 year old son takes Atenolol and Amlodipine for high blood pressure. He has just had gastroscopy at Great Ormond Street to find the cause of persistent stomach pain. The surgeon found nothing obvious wrong but we have to wait for results of biopsies. A side effect of Amlodipine and beta blockers is abdominal pain. Has anyone experienced abdominal pain whilst taking them?

What was the outcome of the investigations.......what is the cause of his hypertension.
You say that at gastroscopy, the surgeon found nothing, so what did he biopsy?
Look forward to some feedback.

Hi Squad, yes we are talking about the same boy! Not sure when we last spoke, but he had angioplasty on his right kidney in March for renal artery stenosis. His blood pressure is now within normal limits but he is still taking the medication I mentioned. He has had persistent abdominal pain throughout and it took a long time to get referred to a gastroenterologist as the docs were more concerned with his b/p. The consultant found nothing abnormal when he did the gastroscopy which he was pleased about because he said he only finds nasty things! He took biopsies to test for coeliacs disease among other things. My son has been on a milk free diet for 6 weeks to see of that made a difference, but I don't think it has! It was nice of you to remember beane baby!
