blood shot eye

This morning my right eye became very sore and bloodshot..all the viens in the white of my eye were visable and it was hard for me to keep my eye open..I was very worried but after about an hour it eased off and returned to normal..what could have caused this?

It could be conjunctivitis but that doesn't go away that quickly. If you Google "bloodshot eye" lots of sites come up, some look quite scary in diagnosis but you might find something to help.

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago, it cleared up completely after 2 days.
