Severe Kidney Infection

I have had a stabbing pain in my right kidney for 2 days now so i nipped to the walk in centre today. I have been diagnosed with a severe kidney infection. She also said i might have a stone? What is this? Also, i have some antibiotics to take and i have to go back in 3 days time to have another test to see if they are working. I was told that if the pain gets worse, if i start bleeding, have burning pee, fever or vomitting i am to get straight to A&E! Is it that serious then? Because i thought a wee infection was a simple thing that the body can sort out? Its probably me being naive so i thought i would ask you all some advice

I currently feel sick, have back ache, peeing every 10-20 minutes and have a dull ache/throbbing in my right side. Ive took some of the anti biotics about an hour ago now

wee infection isn't so bad, kidney infection is much more serious. I have had kidney stones before - they block the kidney tube s and can be excruciating. I had to have 4 operations to get rid plus 2 months of a urostomy (tube coming out of my back draining the kidney)

ahhh so a wee infection and a kidney infection is different! Well she told me it was a kidney infection so i take it thats bad then? Anything i can do to make it better? should i drink a ton of water and get a heat wheat bag on my side? xx

Kidney infections, by and large are no big deal, settling within a matter of a week with antibiotics.

If the infection recurs or is resistant to treatment, then investigations have to be performed to exclude an underlying cause.e.g abnormalities of the kidney, or stones.

There a many types of kidney stones, some remain silent, some migrate into the ureter (tube between kidney and bladder) causing pain (renal colic) and some pass into the bladder, causing pain and bleeding and some pass out with minimal pain.

I just have the feeling that your attack will settle within a week without further complications.

Drink tons of water and take paracetamol for the pain. Try to avoid alcohol, coffee or tea.
But mainly drink loads and loads of water and the worst should be over in a day or so.
