Should I Model?
51 Answers
I have been told I should model, but I have very low self confidence and low self esteem. I am only 5'2, but they say I can do catalog work and stuff. But idk, what do you guys think? These pics are from the past year to now.)

Height is an issue regarding catwalk and even some catalogue work, but there are niche markets for models and as ratter says you have a unique look. I agree that if you don't pursue this when you are 80 years old you'll regret it, so by all means give it a go, but bearing in mind you have low confidence ry not to attach too much importance to it as people can be cruel unpleasant and downright nasty. Don't also neglect a plan B, so plan for another career as well alongside any modelling aspirations you might have. Stick your toe in the water and see how tings go, and as Ratter says dont part with any money from agencies. I really wish you good luck, quite pretty enough to model.

When I was young, believe it or not I was told that I should model by lots of people, but I just wasn't interested - I never liked the camera!! However, if you would like to have a try then I see no problem as long as you go through reputable agencies. But as others have said don't rely on getting any work and keep grounded and don't neglect your education or future career prospects. It could fund you through college perhaps. By the way how old are you?
Be wary!!

I am amazed that no one has posted the obvious warning....if the person who has "told" you that you should model wants you to hand over large amounts of cash and/or take off you clothes for "portfolio" shots then walk away now. if you have what it takes then an agency will take you on and cover portfolio costs against future earnings. No reputable agency will want naked or porn shots either.

Exactly Woofgang - who is "they"? Are "they" people who are saying you can do all this modelling and they can help you out for a small one off fee? I wish I was anywhere near attractive enough to be a model and know little about it but something repeated all the time is that no decent agency will ask you to pay a single penny.
Sugas - when I was 17 I was offered a modelling contract with Max Factor, after winning a silly Max Factor Girl competition at a holiday camp in Jersey. I went for the finals, but didn't stand a chance; the girls that entered were mostly professional with their entourage to back them up.
I was so nervious and totally out of my depth. Even though I didn't win, a Max Factor representative came up to me afterwards and said they would like to see me again and would offer me a contract.
I turned it down, as I knew I wouldn't have been able to cope with the dog eat dog attitude you need in that world.
I do regret it sometimes, and wonder 'what if'.
I think your photos are lovely.

I have no experience of the modelling world and haven't looked at your links; but what I will say is you don't develop as an individual if you run away from challenges, get outside of your comfort zone and work at it until you are comfortable there. It seems to me you aren't asking for a major life decision here. If those who told you that you should be a model are in the profession (rather than friends/family who may be biased) why can't you simply do a bit of modelling 'on the side' whilst you also pursue another string to your career bow ? If it all seems too much you just stop. If you get determined to stick to it and get somewhere, then good for you. At least you'll know you gave it a shot and have no regrets about missed chances. Just don't get persuaded to do anything you are not happy about.
Oh and yes, I didn't read the replies just the OP. If they are asking for money then beware. Granted I understand models need a photo portfolio, which wil need to be paid for, but be aware of exactly what is being offered. Be aware who is saying you should be doing this, and what they want to get out of it, if anything.
Incidentally ... Kate Moss is a good example of what a bit of self belief can do.
Sarah Doukas told Kate that she should try modelling.
If Kate looked in a mirror, she would not have seen classic modelling material. She was short (okay, not as short as you, but still pretty small). She hasn't got big, white teeth. Her nose is wonky, and puffy at the end. She has bandy legs. If you lined her up with Naomi, Claudia, Nadja, Heidi, Helena, etc ... she looked like the ugly duckling.
But within a couple of years, she was the most "in demand" catwalk model in the world.
She showed the world that there is no single "model look" or "model shape".
So don't let anyone talk you out of it.
And, whatever you do ... do NOT talk YOURSELF out of it.
Just be prepared to work your butt off, and remember ... for every 60 seconds you spend in front of a camera, you will probably spend 6 hours hanging around in a changing room, and even longer sitting on a train.

Naturally pretty girl. As it's been mentioned, visit a few agencies. I know someone similar in height and looks to you. Did a few tv adverts. You never know where it might lead. She started a family so concentrated on that and did not take her brief tv career any further. Did not regret doing the ads and met some great people.
