Have I broken it?

I was playing silly buggers with my step son earlier. Somehow my ring finger on my left hand got bent back at the joint nearest the tip. I cannot now move it. it is hugely swollen (i am dipping it in ice cold liquid at present). the tip on the underside has, in the space of about 3 hours gone a really horrid black colour.

Do I a) just drink more alcohol and hope that it doesn't get any worse
b) go to casualty and see what they say or
c) something else

TBH the pain is bloody excrutiating. I've actually strapped it to my third finger because I can manage to type like that. But if I catch it, it brings tears to my eyes.

I'm not a medical sort, but have you got any rings on your finger - if you go to the hospital they might have to cut them off (just a thought) but if it is hurting that much you should probably go now rather than in the morning.

Bloody hell Barmaid it sounds like it needs looking at!! prehaps pop in to a walk in centre or A&E tomorrow if it's still just as bad. Ouch tho, it sounds awful! :o(

I would go and get it checked out. I did something similar and managed to damage a nerve at the same time. It felt like almost pins and needles on the tip of my finger, and it stayed like that for months. Have you managed to get the ring off?

I've already strapped it to the next finger. And I am not playing on the bloody swings anymore!!!!

It is kind of a funny shape but I am not sure whether that is just the swelling or whether I have done some real damage.

The colour in such a short time is amazing. I know I bruise easily, but this is bloody quick even for me.

If you fracture a bone, you can normally identify an EXACT point where the pain is coming from.

If you sprain something, the pain seems to come a general area around the joint, rather than from an exact place on a bone.

Don't leave it til next day, they might say it's too late to sort it, happened to me and after 6 years I can't bend that joint. You'll have a heck of wait tho on a Friday night but go xx

Get as pissed as you can as quick as you can if you're planning a trip to A&E on a Friday night - then you'll just fit right in............... oh and you're a muppet by the way lol !!!!!

I took my engagement ring off straight away in case it swelled thank goodness. Even that bloody hurt. I'd be in real trouble if I hadn't now given the size of it.

Am already a bit pissed Craft - this was on the way to the pub via the play parks. Me being me I said "ouch that hurts, lets go to the pub and see if some pinot might help".

Take yourself off to A&E and get them to have a look at it. You don't want to let it go too long and find that you lose the feeling in the tip of your finger permanently. If it is broken they will make sure it is set and can heal properly. Please don't drink before you go to A&E, as this can affect your having an anaesthetic and the staff in A&E really don't need another alcohol fuelled person to deal with, lol. Hope you get it sorted soon and it stops hurting so much. Hugs!

I don`t think you have broken it. I think you have dislocated it. I don`t think you need to strap it to the next finger. You need to go to A&E so that they can put it back into place (under local anaesthetic) and it`s not advisable to have any alcohol.

Is that when they push the bone back to where it's supposed to be? There was an old woman having that done, the last time I was in A&E. She was in the bed next to me, curtains opened. The poor thing was in absolute agony, and all's they gave her was gas and air! Ouch!

I should point out, this woman was having her ankle/foot pushed back in, so it was obviously far more painful than your finger will be.
Sorry, I just re-rad that and realised it wasn't a great story to share :(
