shoulder pain & pins and needles

i think i've pulled a muscle in my shoulder. The pain started two weeks ago, when on our caravan holiday. I thought it was probably 'cus I was sleeoing in a strange bed.
Anyway, it's still very painful all the time and hurts more when i use it. (you'd be amazed how much you use your shoulder muscle!) I aslo now get intermittent mild pins and needles in my forfinger tip and thumb.
I have been taking nurofen which do help, but I know they've worn off and am restricted as to how many i can take. (I also think they might be making me feel sick).
I can't get an appointment at the dr today and wondered if there's anything else i could try. (I'd love to go to bed but it's my 8year old's birthday party this afternoon!)

Perhaps you've trapped a nerve which is causing the tingling.

Sounds like the pain might actually be eminating from your neck rather than your shoulder. Problems in the neck often cause shoulder pain and the fact that you are experiencing pins and needles in your finger and thumb would also indicate to me that it's more of a neck problem. You may have a degree of cervical spondolitis. I don't know how old you are but it's relatively common in women as they get older.

Try an ice pack on the painful area (or frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel), and then follow with a warm hot water bottle. 10 minutes each.

You can take paracetamol alongside ibuprufen (nuerofen is just a brand of Ibuprofen)

I'm wondering if you are developing a frozen shoulder - hope not, but symptoms sound familiar

it's mainly in centre and inner edge of my shoulder blade, but sometimes a feel a pain almost on my outer upper arm.
If it's either of those, will it go? :(

It won't last forever Crisgal. Best to see the doctor and meantime ice packs/hot water bottle and take paracetamol as well as ibuprofen. It's a horrible pain, but things will improve.

A warm bath will help relax the muscles, which are probably the cause of most of your pain now - your muscles have gone tight and into a spasm.

I can only take 3 lots of tabs in 24 hours tho :( as soon as i can, i'll get to drs and get stronger ones!

I'll also start the ice/heat treatment.

But you can take Paracetamol as well as the Ibuprofen Crisgal.

Nurofen is Ibuprofen.

Sounds musculo-skeketal.....Nurofen contains only 200mgms of Ibuprofen which is useless. I am also against pain killing tablets which contain nor than one type of painkiller.

Ditch the nurofen and take 600mgms of Ibuprofen and repeat when necessary up to three times a day.

Monitor the situation for a further 2 weeks.

Both drugs act differently Lofty.

Paracetamol is an analgesic with little anti inflammatory effects and Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory drug with some analgesic powers.

Now, if one has a flare up of an arthritic problem or an acute injury then it is the acute inflammatory response that causes the pain and hence one needs the drug with the greatest anti inflammatory property....Ibuprofen.
If the pain is due to a local problem, headache for example. them Paracetamol may be the drug of choice.

So you can take them both together then for something like crisgal is suffering which is probably caused by inflammation and giving her a lot of pain. Which is why I advised taking both.

Just didn't understand what you meant by not taking two different sort of painkillers.


If my arthritis is really bad, I take Mobic + paracetamol, as advised.

Warning Crisgal you can take paracetamol with ibruprfen but not neorophen as it contais paracetamol already

Lofty, my "bind" is tablets that contain more than one compound. I would rather take ibuprofen and Codeine separately than Nurofen which contains both.

If you had a drug reaction, how would you know which drug caused the problem?

It would also be difficult to increase the dose of one component without changing the dose of the others.

No...I HATE multidrug tablets....always have......always will.
