At 5am this morning I woke up to a horrific pain in my calf. Maybe I'm a wimp, but this was horrible. It lasted about 5 minutes and my leg still hurts now.

I assume this was cramp...Is this kind of thing random, or can I expect to get this again? Anyone else care to agree that the pain is truly bad?

Finally is there a way that you can make the pan go away. I was scared to move in case I ripped something!

When I started to take medication to reduce high blood pressure I also started to experience cramps. It felt as though the muscle in my leg was going to tear itself apart. A frightening and unpleasant experience.
Boxy I take Ezetrol for cholesterol, only 10mg. I had to stop taking statins because of muscle cramps and pain in my muscles and joints. The docs seem happy with my checkups, but no way would I go back to statins again. Tonic water helps for the cramps I think Charcoal tablets help but haven't tried them.
Sometimes, during the night, I get cramp in my legs and feet - always have. I buy Crampex tablets from the chemist. It works very quickly.
Get some QUININE tabs from your GP, I have been taking them for years and not had cramp since I started with them.
very painful. I used to get it alot. I try to stretch leg out slowly now so not to pull the calf muscle while its still cramping. Got it once during sex, rolled off bed in agony, quite funny my bloke trying to bend my foot upwards whilst both naked. And with all the screaming my neighbours must have thought i was really enjoying it. Lol
LOL @ 4get....
It is truly painful, I do suffer constantly, they say to drink tonic water helps, my episodes last as long as yours and sometimes it hurts for days, try to relax when it happens and pull your toes towards you.
My husband occasionally suffers from severe cramp, and he has found that eating a banana every day seems to alleviate the problem, and if he forgets for a week or two, then the cramps seem to return. Not sure, but I think the potassium in the banana is what is doing the trick.
I also read in an old book, that if you suffer from cramp in your leg, then standing on a cold surface seems to help.
