My son has chickenpox, is there anything I should be wary of because he is older than usual for having this?
My girls were 3 and 5 when they had it and apart from the spots and scratching they were ok.

Bicarbonate of Soda in the bath water is really soothing. Paracetamol also stops itching (as advised by my GP).

How much bicarb Lottie? I have a full tub of the stuff I can use.
Lofty

Does it?..............
Actually, Sqad it was my previous GP some years ago when son had Chicken Pox. He told me that as itching was caused by the same nerves that made you feel pain that paracetamol was very effective in giving relief. Seriously! He was an ex Army Medic and very self assured so I naturally believed him!!!
Daffy. I think you have to guess!! I really don't know. Probably a couple of tablespoons I would think.
Lofty....well he was wrong.
Paracetamol has NO antipruritic( stops itching) properties, on the contrary one of the uncommon side effects is to PRODUCE itching in subjects.

Who cares anyway.....;-)
Well if he was wrong I am glad, because he was a pompous ass anyway, which is why we changed doctors. ;o)

Was he right in saying that same nerves that made you feel itchy were those that made you feel pain?
Lofty...I don't know.......I doubt it . The itchiness is due to a local skin reaction, histamine mediated I think....( I have just made that up so it is probably bullsh1t).......LOL
LOL

I know what itchiness is due to just not if the same nerves were involved as in pain.

Anyway, as you said. Who cares!! ;o)

Have a nice evening (I am sitting here with my eyes streaming and stinging like mad ever since I walked out across the fields this morning. I can hardly see - allergy to something out there, 'cos my nose is streaming as well) I look a sight!

Apologies for chatting daffy.
