My son has chickenpox, is there anything I should be wary of because he is older than usual for having this?
My girls were 3 and 5 when they had it and apart from the spots and scratching they were ok.

i would have thought you'd have to be very careful yourself daffy - as far as i remember don't you have a long term condition that might make you more susceptible to illness?
just make sure that he keeps the spotty areas clean to avoid infection, as obviously you cant be checking them.

and warn him to keep out of strong sunlight and to avoid scratching them.

Yes, be careful Daffy. You can get them twice.

I have emphysema bednobs, but I had chickenpox as a child so should be immune. My oh has never had it though so he might well be cursing our son soon. lol

Redcrx, he isn't scratching yet but I have told him to let me know if the itching drives him too mad and i'll give him some antihistamine tablets. He showers/bathes daily anyway so keeping clean shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the answers.

I didn't know you can get chickenpox twice ummmm. I'm worried now :-/ lol
Yes you can. My sister has had it twice. Although the second time was fairly mild.
And be careful with your OH....Chicken pox in adult men can affect their testicles.
So I've been told....

My oh has had the snip anyway so fertitility isn't an issue for us (Thankfully!)

Thanks for the links and advice folks.
nothing to worry about, calamine lotion works a treat esp in a bath to help with itching. only problem is with adults if already had chicken pox is shingles
We tend to think we should keep warm when we're ill but with chickenpox it's better to keep cool (not cold tho). Some paracetamol might help. Hope he's better soon, I had it as an adult & it was horrendous.
My husband was 42 when he had Chickenpox & was very ill with it.
My two tots 2 years & 4 years had it first didn't have many spots & recovered well but H was covered from head to toe & was off work 5 weeks.
His mother forgot to tell me ha hadn't had it as a child.

Yep, I've had it twice once at infants school then again at senior school.
