How common are dry sockets? My dentist said that the pain is worse than the toothache in the first place. I cannot imagine being in more pain than I was with the abscess. He's really scared me!! :|
A dry socket? ( I could, but i wont )........sounds nasty, sweetheart.......so you had the tooth out....why has the dentist scared you?.....do you still have the abscess?...or is that why he had to take the tooth out?....so who mentioned dry sockets now? x
Hope he gave you some anti-biotics whilst it heals up.....says after a few days.
I hope it does'nt cause you too much discomfort.....maybe a little salt water gurgling may help too...he must have told you what to expect and what to do for pain relief. x
Hi Yogi :-) I had an abscess and have been on antibiotics for the past week. I just had the tooth out a wee while ago and he told me that I could get a dry socket (when the blood clot dislodges I think) which is more painful. I just can't go through anymore pain, especially if it's worse than before :| toothache is the worst :-(
Many many years ago, I had seven taken out at the same time, and the dentist put them in a little bag for me to leave under my pillow.
I got a shiny pound coin from the tooth fairy, which I carried with me everywhere (pound coins were a new thing then), until I dropped it down the toilet.......
But I'm sure you don't need to know that.....:-) xxx
Thanks Al... Maybe he was just trying to scare me... he has quite a twisted sense of humour. I went in tonight and the first thing he said was "Let's get that tooth ripped out! Emm I mean gently wiggled out." :|
oooo abscesses, had those! Pain like nothing on earth isn't it? I had an abscess on one of my wisdom teeth, and to cut a long story short I ended up having all 4 of them pulled out at hospital.
Never had that dry socket thingy, but can only echo Albags suggestion, salt water is supposed to help a little.
